Myth 1: Timber equipment is automatically less durable than metal

Myth 2: A certified product makes the entire site safe

A safe playground is a complete system. Equipment conformity is important, but correct spacing, foundations, impact-attenuating surfacing, installation and periodic inspection are also required.

Myth 3: Every project can use the same rubber thickness

Incorrect. Surfacing type and thickness must be matched to the critical fall height and the technical requirements of the selected equipment.

What does EN 1176 cover?

EN 1176 addresses safety requirements for playground equipment, including access, openings, entrapment risks, free-fall areas and other equipment-specific criteria. Documentation requirements should be agreed before order where a tender requires specific certification.

Who is responsible for ground preparation?

The responsibility is defined by the contract. Where ground preparation is not included in the supplier’s scope, the project owner or site contractor must prepare the base, drainage and installation area according to the approved plan.

How is impact surfacing specified?

Surfacing is selected according to critical fall height, use zone and local project requirements. Rubber tiles, poured systems or other impact-attenuating surfaces may be appropriate depending on the project.

How are delivery and installation planned?

Logistics depend on order volume, destination and site access. Installation scheduling also depends on whether the ground is ready and whether local site support is required.
